// Shorts

Golden Rules

  1. Make sure the shorts fit - just above or below the knee

You want the shorts to end at just above, below, or at, your knee. No short-shorts, no capris. And don’t forget the belt.

  2. Always wear shorts with sandals

It’s true - shoes just look awkward with shorts. Sandals are really the only way to go when wearing shorts.

  3. Only wear athletic shorts when doing athletics

You may think your Shaquile O’Neal sized basketball shorts are cool, but we guarantee that most women do not.

Standard “Can’t-Go-Wrong” Suggestions

Please note: the items listed below are girl-approved examples. Although each item is linked to a vendor that sells the item, we’re not advocating any exact make, model, or vendor. We highly recommend vendors which offer free in-store returns or free hipping on certain orders.

Regular Shorts

Quiksilver - Nova Shorts (Army) - Apparel
Paul Frank - Chevelle Cut Off Shorts aka Corts! (Graham Brown) - Apparel
French Connection - Multi Pocket Shorts (Nine Iron) - Apparel
DC - Noah Cargo Shorts (Khaki) - Apparel
Men: The original shorts - chino nut

It’s hard to go wrong with solid color - beige, brown, green all match well. For the adventurous, go for a pattern. Avoid cargo pockets if entirely possible to avoid the baggy college look.

Remember, if the setting is anything above casual, switch to pants.

Board Shorts

Element - Tartan Shorts (Khaki) - Apparel
Paul Frank - Corvair Shorts (Dark Grey) - Apparel
Matix Clothing Company - Domingo Shorts (Grey) - Apparel
Element - Kearny Shorts (Brown) - Apparel
Rusty - Tow In Shorts (Brown) - Apparel

Although you should generally avoid wearing athletic shorts unless actually doing athletics, an exception is made for board shorts. Don’t be afraid to give these a try even if you aren’t a surfer - but try to get them without a mesh liner.
