You may see wearing a scarf as a sign of a poorly-insulating jacket, but half the point of scarves is that they look nice. Nothing jazzes up a coat like a sophisticated scarf. Avoid neon acolors.
Time to give up those massive snow mitts. Try some black or brown, leather or knit gloves. I know, I know, leather gloves aren’t as cozy as your ski mitts, but they look a lot nicer with the aforementioned dressy coat.
Nothing is worse than a shy guy hiding behind his baseball cap. Other types of hats (berrets, fedoras) run the risk of being considered effeminate. Best to play it safe and ditch the hat (unless you need a knit hat or toque for the winter.)

The scarf allows you to add a dash of color to your otherwise neutral winter outerwear
Go with leather or knitted gloves. Try to avoid anything too bulky or flashy. Color-wise you can’t go wrong with brown or black. These won’t stand up to a -40 degree blizzard, but they’re great for driving with a freezing steering wheel.
